Shanghai International Circuit

Hermann Tilke's Shanghai layout is famous for its opening sequence, the tightening Turn 1–2–3 "snail" that spirals inward before flicking back out, a corner that rewards patience and brutal commitment in equal measure. The lap shapes the Chinese character 上 (shàng), and its signature feature is the enormous back straight that feeds a heavy braking zone at Turn 14, the circuit's prime overtaking spot. Long, loaded corners are tough on front-left tyre wear, and a low-grip surface that takes time to rubber in keeps the racing unpredictable, especially in the changeable spring weather. After a multi-year absence the venue returned with sprint races, and its mix of slow hairpins and fast sweeps continues to test both car balance and tyre management.
